Kurdish (Feyli) Language – 103
Kurdish (Feyli) is a dialect of the Kurdish language spoken by the Feyli Kurds, who primarily reside in parts of Iraq and Iran. Feyli Kurdish belongs to the Southern Kurdish group within the larger Northwestern Iranian branch of the Indo-Iranian languages, which are part of the Indo-European language family.
Feyli Kurdish is characterised by its unique phonological, lexical, and grammatical features that distinguish it from other Kurdish dialects such as Kurmanji and Sorani. It has a rich oral tradition, encompassing folklore, poetry, and songs that are integral to the cultural identity of the Feyli Kurdish people.
The language is written in the Persian script, which is adapted from the Arabic script and includes additional letters to represent specific sounds in Kurdish. In recent years, efforts have been made to document and preserve Feyli Kurdish through educational and cultural initiatives. Despite these efforts, Feyli Kurdish faces challenges related to language standardisation and the influence of dominant languages in the region, such as Arabic and Persian. However, it remains a crucial part of the cultural heritage and identity of the Feyli Kurdish community.
