Tsakhur is a Northeast Caucasian language spoken by the Tsakhur people, primarily residing in the southern parts of Dagestan, Russia, and in the northern regions of Azerbaijan. Belonging to the Lezgic branch of the Northeast Caucasian language family, Tsakhur shares linguistic characteristics with neighbouring languages such as Lezgian and Rutul. The language is notable for its complex phonology and extensive system of noun cases, which are typical features of languages in this area.

Tsakhur employs both Cyrillic and Latin scripts for its written form, although Cyrillic is more commonly used in Dagestan, while the Latin script is prevalent in Azerbaijan. The Tsakhur language faces challenges due to the dominance of Russian and Azerbaijani in formal education and official communication. However, efforts to preserve and revitalise the language include teaching Tsakhur in local schools, publishing literature, and broadcasting media in Tsakhur. These initiatives aim to maintain the language as a key element of the Tsakhur cultural heritage.
