South Ndebele, also known as Southern Ndebele or isiNdebele, is one of the 11 official languages of South Africa. It is primarily spoken by the Ndebele people, who are concentrated in the northeastern regions of South Africa, particularly in the Mpumalanga and Gauteng provinces. The language is part of the Nguni group within the Bantu language family.

In terms of its linguistic characteristics, isiNdebele has a complex system of noun classes and concords, as is typical in Bantu languages. It also employs a system of click consonants, similar to other Nguni languages like isiZulu and isiXhosa.

Culturally, isiNdebele is integral to the identity of the Ndebele people, who are known for their vibrant artistic traditions, including colourful beadwork, house painting, and music. The language plays a crucial role in the preservation of oral traditions, folklore, and historical narratives within the Ndebele community.

Efforts have been made to promote and preserve Israel, including initiatives in education and cultural institutions. However, like many indigenous languages, isiNdebele faces challenges such as the dominance of major languages and the impact of globalization.
