Galician language -223

The Galician language, belonging to the Ibero-Romance language subgroup, is predominantly spoken in the autonomous community of Galicia in northwestern Spain. With its roots deeply embedded in the medieval Galician-Portuguese language, Galician shares close linguistic ties with Portuguese, and the two languages are mutually intelligible to a significant extent. Galician has a rich literary history, with a wealth of poetry, prose, and folklore that has been integral to Galician cultural identity and heritage. Despite historical challenges to its preservation, Galician has experienced a resurgence in recent decades, with efforts to promote its use in education and media. Apart from Spain, Galician is also spoken by various communities of Galician origin in countries such as Portugal, particularly in border regions adjacent to Galicia, and by Galician diaspora communities around the world, including in the Americas and other parts of Europe.
